Bike parts
All of the
bike parts on a bike must work together in making sure that the
bike is safe for people to ride. Some of the safety specifications that
must be considered for bikes include:
• Horns – Even though many kids think
bike horns are simply fun items to play with, the truth is that bike
horns can truly help a child be safer as he or she rides a bike. Even
if children only think they are playing with the horns or bells on their
bikes, what they are really doing is alerting others who are around
that they are playing on their bikes. This makes people aware of them
as they are getting ready to back out of their driveways and at other
times when it is important to know there are children nearby.
• Chains – Chains are bike parts that
most riders do not think much of, but parents should check the chains
on their children’s bikes from time to time. If a chain becomes
loose, not only is it an annoyance, but it can also cause the brakes
on a bike to stop working. It is particularly important for children
who sometimes ride carelessly to know their brakes will work. Keeping
the chains oiled is one good way to keep them on track.
Checking bike seats, handle bars and reflectors are also important
ways to help ensure that children are safe when riding bikes.
